PNGRB Clears ₹7,000 Crore LPG Pipeline Expansion

Summary

PNGRB has authorised 1,800 km of new LPG pipeline projects, backed by an estimated ₹7,000 crore investment. The network will run through Telangana, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Karnataka and Goa, and is meant to widen the country’s common-carrier LPG system.

Practical Impact

The regulator says the projects should cut dependence on LPG tank trucks, which can lower logistics costs, ease traffic on roads and improve safety. PNGRB also frames the expansion as a resilience measure for a country that still relies heavily on imported LPG.

Key Uncertainty

The benefits depend on completion of the authorised lines, all of which are to be developed by GAIL (India) Limited.

The statement does not give a timetable, so the pace of rollout and when the network actually expands remain unclear.
